Commencement -- Columbia School of Journalism

In 1979, Gilda Radner threw a summer-long party at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre. Share the fun as Gilda's Saturday Night Live alter-egos take on new comedy material not even the Not Ready for Prime Time Players were quite ready for. Among the many highlights: Emily Litella substituting for a Bedford-Stuyvesant teacher who's been the unfortunate victim of a "stubbing". Lisa Hoopner whining through "The Way We Were". Roseanne Roseannadanna grossing out grads at the Columbia School of Journalism. And joining in for even more hip happiness are several of Gilda's SNL cohorts. Paul Schaffer (Late Night with David Letterman) plays straight man and plays up a musical storm. Father Guido Sarducci (Don Novello), rock critic and gossip columnist for the Vatican's L'Osservatore Romano, reveals the astonishing "Kennedy/Lincoln Coincidenza" and poses a new model for higher education: the five-minute university.

OUTFOXED Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism Interviews Video

Creative Commons license: Sampling Plus. This is the original footage from the documentary Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism, produced and directed by Robert Greenwald. The film, which has drawn attention for its pointed critique of Fox News, consists largely of interviews with former Fox employees and news guests. Greenwald said, "In making Outfoxed, I learned how cumbersome and expensive it can be to license footage from news organizations. The Creative Commons license, as used here, allows me as a filmmaker to know immediately how I can use a piece of content in my films. I could think of no better way to walk the talk myself than by releasing the interviews from Outfoxed here under a license that allows other filmmakers to use my material in new and creative ways. I look forward to seeing what others do with these interviews." Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism is a 2004 documentary film by progressive filmmaker Robert Greenwald that is highly critical of the Fox News Channel, and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, claiming that the channel is used to promote and advocate right-wing views. The film says this pervasive bias contradicts the channel's claim of being "Fair and Balanced", and argues that Fox News has been engaging in what amounts to consumer fraud. The documentary was not released theatrically, but rather was distributed in DVD format by the progressive Political action committee MoveOn.org, and sold online through Internet retailers such as ...

Known as a tough, hands-on manager, Dimon was supposed to avert the sort of foolish risks that tempted so many of his peers. And sure enough, he was different. Instead of reviewing brief summaries of the bank's operations, as his predecessor had, Dimon demanded to see the raw data — hundreds of pages detailing JP Morgan's businesses every month. Instead of simply trusting his traders, Dimon put himself through a tutorial, so that he would understand the complex trades the bank was exposed to. And rather than run its mortgage machine at full throttle for as long as possible, Dimon reined in lending earlier than did others and warned his shareholders of looming trouble. Prudent as they were, his precautions were not enough. Over the last two years, JPMorgan Chase suffered an astonishing $51 billion in faulty mortgages, unpaid credit cards and other bad loans ...
