I welcome him as a friend. France believes that Russia is its strategic partner, a country that is a friend of France. I have repeatedly worked with President Medvedev and can tell you that I trust him. Yes, together we tried to resolve a complex, painful crisis, and we succeeded. He is a great friend of France's and has come to visit us today. I want to say a few words about our conversation. Of course, I am speaking in the presence of Mr Medvedev and then he will speak. I think that we have very similar views on major issues. Iran. President Medvedev has told me that he is ready to discuss the issue of sanctions provided, of course, that these sanctions do not result in a humanitarian catastrophe. But before I do that, I want once again, in the presence of all the media representatives from Russia and Ukraine, to congratulate Mr Yanukovych on his official assumption of office as President. Its obvious that the results of the presidential elections [in Ukraine] were significant for us, to put it mildly. This is certainly a positive signal for the development of our relations. Millions of people who took part in the voting, voted for the development of relations between Russia and Ukraine, as Mr Yanukovych quite rightly put it. Allow me to let you in on a little secret: during our bilateral negotiations Mr Yanukovych was absolutely right when he noted that millions of people in Russia and Ukraine proceed on the assumption that the presidents will not hinder the development of Russian-Ukrainian relations. We have enough mutual understanding and political will to remove artificial barriers which were created over the years on the path to equal and profitable mutual partnership. I believe that today we have made another important step to ensure that relations between Ukraine and Russia are as constructive as possible. Undoubtedly, the results of our joint work will help the development of the economies of our countries and the prosperity of citizens of both nations. During our talks, we set out a plan for realising priority tasks of Ukrainian-Russian relations for 2005. Today we have had a very important and fruitful dialogue, and it can be said quite confidently that we have found full mutual understanding on deepening strategic partnership between Ukraine and Russia. We want to change our dialogue fundamentally, and add a strategic component to each treaty and agreement passed. This is also one of our big themes. I fully agree with the fact that our countries have established a strategic partnership and that we must capitalize on this in every possible way. And as countries that exist together on the European continent, there is still the question of European security. You know that Russia has put forward an initiative: we discussed this issue and agreed that we will continue to discuss the topic of European security in various formats. I would like to thank President Sarkozy for what he said regarding a common cultural space and visa restrictions. We believe that partners Russia and the European Union, France and Russia must have full-fledged relations, and such relations would be unthinkable without the free exchange of goods, services and the free movement of people. These are our spiritual roots and the ties that bind millions of families together. Of course, in this sense, perhaps the most important is a truly spiritual project our joint victory, the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory. Our veterans maintain active ties with Ukrainian front-line soldiers, and our duty is to do everything we can to help them to celebrate this holiday properly as brothers in arms together. Mr Yanukovych just mentioned a good idea: perhaps we could organise a train for all the veterans. We will certainly work on this option. The idea has a lot to recommend it, especially if we can talk other countries into coming. Well be sure to talk to them about it. I would also like to point out that for Russia Ukraine remains a key partner in the CIS. And of course we are very much interested in seeing the Ukrainian economy develop properly and that such a close neighbour manages to preserve its political stability.
