Many types of experiments have been performed including the deliberate infection of people with deadly or debilitating diseases, exposure of people to biological and chemical weapons, human radiation experiments, injection of people with toxic and radioactive chemicals, surgical experiments, interrogation/torture experiments, tests involving mind-altering substances, and a wide variety of others. Many of these tests were performed on children and mentally disabled individuals. In many of the studies, a large portion of the subjects were poor racial minorities or prisoners. Often, subjects were sick or disabled people, whose doctors told them that they were receiving "medical treatment", but instead were used as the subjects of harmful and deadly experiments. Like its companion film, Know Your Enemy: Japan, the film is a full-length exploration of why one of the two major Axis countries started World War II and what had to be done to keep them from "doing it again". The film opens with scenes of everyday life in Germany, described by narrator Walter Huston. It shows people such as housewives, mailmen, farmers and policemen at work, and notes that these people were not so different than us, and seem like people Americans can understand. Anthony Veiller then interrupts with "Or can we?", as the film then switches to a montage of Nazi concentration camps and piles of dead bodies. The narrator notes that this is not the only time that Germany has unleashed war on the world, stating that while its generation fought the "Nazis", its fathers fought the "Huns" (pejorative term for Germany during World War I), and its grand father remembers the "Prussians". The narrator claims that its was all part of the same German lust for conquest. Going even further back 150 years, the film informs us that while America, Britain, and France were forming their democratic traditions, Germany was a group of 300 medieval feudal states, not one of them with a constitution or parliament. It was shot by famed cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond over a period of 2 weeks for $33000 with a cast of five, one of which doubled as the production's production manager. Three high school teachers, Ed, Doris, and Carl, are driving through rural Southern California on their way to a Dodgers game in Los Angeles. The group's Chevrolet Belair has some trouble and they are forced to pull off to a gas station/junkyard on the side of the road. After examining the vehicle Ed concludes that the fuel pump will need to be replaced. Doris and Carl search the junkyard looking for the owner, but they cannot find him. In the residence Carl finds a warm meal with a table set for four, but oddly enough nobody is in the house. The three realize this is very peculiar and start to seriously worry about their situation. At this point Charlie Tibbs, a rather large man wielding a Colt .45, and his girlfriend Judy show up. Charlie and Judy have spent the past several days heading west from Arizona, leaving a trail of corpses behind them. Muriel Landers (October 27, 1921 -- February 19, 1977) was an American actress, singer and dancer. She made over 30 film and television appearances between 1950 and 1971. Modern viewers will recognize Landers as Joe Besser's sister "Tiny" in the Three Stooges film Sweet and Hot. In this episode, Landers sang "Let's Fall in Love", revealing a strong and sultry singing voice." Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Landers made television appearances on such shows as Lidsville, Hogan's Heroes, The Jack Benny Show, The Red Skelton Show and The Beverly Hillbillies. Landers also made a memorable appearance in The Twilight Zone episode "A Piano in the House", playing Marge Moore, an overweight woman who is forced to reveal her inner sadness about feeling unloved and unwanted because of her girth. And in the 1970s she played MOMMY HOODOO in the Sid and Marty Kroft production of Lidsville. Landers suffered from hypertension and diabetes in the final years of her life. She died of a stroke on February 19, 1977, and is interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. It also featured future Aunt Bee, Frances Bavier, as Arden's mother, and Allyn Joslyn as George Howell, her agent (and potential boyfriend). Unsuccessful and lasting only 26 episodes, the show was forgotten until four episodes were released on DVD on February 26, 2008 by Alpha Video. The series was produced for Arden's Westhaven Enterprises by Desilu. Eve Arden (April 30, 1908 -- November 12, 1990) was an American actress.
