100th Anniversary Commemoration: 15 April 1912 - 15 April 2012 Robin Gibb (feat. RJ Gibb), Composer Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Cliff Masterson The most famous nautical disaster in history has received many interpretations over the years. On the whole they conclude that, yes, it was very much a tragedy, officially a bad thing to have happened. Consequently, the news that Bee Gee Robin Gibb and his son RJ were to collaborate with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (and feature vocal guest spots from Isabel Suckling and Mario Frangoulis) to create the latest artistic re-imagining of the event was at least interesting. Gibb composed The Titanic Requiem with his son, RJ, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the ocean liner. The entire piece will be performed at the concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with accompaniment from a choir and various special guests. Halifax Shipyard: Shipbuilding Time Lapse

Recorded from September 2009 to October 2010, a time-lapse 3 minute video of the building of the Atlantic Condor, an offshore supply vessel. Over 250 employees worked on the ship. Over 1400 tonnes of steel was used, along with over 12 tonnes of paint, 85km of electrical cable and 600 square metres of hemlock for the deck. Brick by Brick: LEGO Shipbuilding Promo

You may have already heard a bit about HRNM's upcoming LEGO Shipbuilding program, but this blog post contains all details relating to the event. When: Saturday, February 4, 2012 Time: 10am to 5pm Where: At HRNM (2nd floor of Nauticus) Cost: FREE! What you should do: HRNM wants people to bring their already-built LEGO ships (made from a kit or from scratch) to display at the museum for the day. At 2pm on February 4, staff members and members of the local Lego hobbyist group, HARDLUG, will hold a ship contest. Prizes will be given to the winner of the best adult-built ship and best child-built ship brought in before 2pm. It is NOT a requirement to bring a ship with you, however. There will be many other fun activities for people who do not bring a ship for the contest. This entire event is for both adults and children. HRNM will set up a ship-building station during the program, where anyone can build their own ships to enter into the contest or create one from HRNM's own diagrams. Build everything from simple ship designs to a scale representation of the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor. Participants will learn the science behind building ships while using LEGOs. Have fun showcasing your talent while "connecting" with enthusiasts in the Hampton Roads community. Want to participate in the contest but can't make it to the program? That's okay! A bit of history here. A drive from the BPI factory on Port Glasgow Rd. through Greenock's industrial heartland at the time. Shipbuilding and associated engineering works were still a major part of the town's economy. This is as far back as my videos take us.
