How far will a .22 LR Kill?

.22LR LETHALITY - 300 Yard Ballistics Test

**Don't Forget to Rate, Comment, and Subscribe!!!** We are testing the lethality of the .22LR @ 300 Yards...The reason I'm performing this test is because in the past I've had many people down play the lethality of the .22LR at any ranges. This test will help us better understand the capabilities of this little round. TEST: The test here consists of a 4-5" thick piece of chuck roast and 8 layers of denim (4 in front 4 in back). The .22LR round that we are using is the CCI Velocitor GDHP. This round is moving about 1400 FPS out of the muzzle. @ 300 yards this 40 grain bullet is moving about 825 FPS with about 60 ft/lbs of energy. Your standard velocity .22LR is moving about 1050 FPS and has about 100 ft/lbs. So this is both representative of the Velocitor's capability at range but also a closer shot with a more standard velocity ammo. RESULTS: We had two center of mass hits at 300 Yards...one of these penetrated completely through the denim and roast, the other penetrated through 4 layers of denim and the entire roast, but came to a stop on the other side under the rear denim, highly expanded. Both rounds (comparing the wound channel) were expanded. DISCUSSION: After reviewing the results I feel there is no doubt that the .22LR (specifically the CCI Velocitor is lethal at extended ranges. I can speculate that if this test were performed with solid lead nose or FMJ ammo the penetration would probably be even greater due to the lack of expansion (and the braking effect that ...

.22 LR Tracers - Handgun Shooting

Shooting the Piney Mountain .22 LR tracers using a Ruger SR22 handgun, 3.5" barrel. Trying to determine if these will "light up", or if they can only be used in a rifle. My steel targets in the backyard were on the receiving end of these shots, distances up to 30 yards. Various degrees of daylight are shown to give you an idea when it's best to shoot these and get the most desirable effect. PLEASE NOTE: You need optimum ground and weather conditions for shooting any type of tracers; they can be highly flammable. The ground conditions for this video were excellent. .22 LR TRACERS

Brief overview of the .22 long rifle tracer from Piney Mountain Ammunition, followed by shooting segments including POV. Distances of 60 to 80 yards in controlled conditions at specific targets. These were purchased at the Knob Creek Gun Show in West Point, Kentucky. They are also available via several online outlets from $15 to $25 for a box of 50 rounds. This cartridge definitely 'lights up". At an advertised 1070 fps, it is subsonic. I did not chronograph, but I'm thinking that 1070 fps is a stretch for this 40 gr bullet. It drops off quickly, dramatically affecting accuracy. This is also a quiet shooter; my neighbor's dog didn't even bark at the noise.
