Time lapse video can be an effective tool for the analysis of public spaces. We can count vehicles and people; we can track movement across a space to determine desire lines and blockages; and we can clearly communicate our findings. And all of this can be done much faster than if we were to do it in real time. This video shows East 17th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue -- Union Square North -- between 4:00 am and 6:35 pm on Friday, October 22nd. The playback speed is much higher than what we normally use for analysis -- 24 frames per second rather than six or 12 frames per second -- but we sped it up for the purposes of showing it publicly.

GoPro HD 60 FPS to 24 FPS Slow Motion on a Mac

Finally figured out a way to properly play 60 FPS video as a silky smooth slow motion video. Shooting video @ 60 FPS and slowing it down by 50% in iMovie only yields a choppy, slow motion video because iMovie automatically converts 60 FPS to 30 FPS and than slowing it by 50% drops every other frame. Results are poor. However, using JES Deinterlacer, the frame rate is truly slowed without dropping any frames. A 60 FPS one minute video can be converted into a 30 FPS two minute video. No frames dropped. The video in the sample is what normally would be a boring few minutes from a camera flying around on a homemade R/C plane, However, I find it slowed to 24 FPS to be fascinating!
