| In this episode of Cheap Family Travel, (www.cheapfamilytraveltips.com), Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate made the short drive from Denver to Colorado Springs, Colorado, home of the Garden of the Gods and the United States Air Force Academy. We started out by taking the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, one of many 14000-foot mountains in the Colorado Rockies and the inspiration of "America the Beautiful." Other fun things to do in Colorado Springs are visiting the US Olympic Training Complex and whitewater rafting in Colorado Springs. The Garden of the Gods is an amazing park of beautiful rock and tree formations, with trails for driving, cycling, or hiking. We were impressed by the US Air Force Academy, where enlisted men and women were arriving for the opening day of their stay. The Air Force Chapel is amazing with its huge windows facing the Rocky Mountains. A highlight for us was rafting on the Arkansas River with Wilderness Aware in nearby Buena Vista. Colorado Springs is a beautiful city, well worth visiting. |
