BM-30 Smerch

The BM-30 "Smerch" is a Multipule Launch Rocket System. The system was developed in 1984, and entered service in 1989. Designed to eliminate troops, armour, and soft materiels in concentrated area's. artillery batteries, command posts, and ammunition depots. The 300mm rockets with a firing range of 70 and 90 km and various warheads have been developed specifically for the Smerch. The 9A52-2 vehicle with the automated system ensures: + Delivery of fire from an unsurveyed fire position. + Laying of the launch tube cluster with the crew staying in the cabin and without using aiming points; + Autonomous determination of an azimuth of the launch tube clusters longitudinal axis; + Visual representation of graphical information for the launch tube cluster laying, the route of vehicle movement and location as well as a point of destination and direction of movement on the video terminal. + Increase in MLRS survivability owing to reduced time of staying at a fire position; + Increased comfort for the laying operator, especially in adverse weather conditions and at night; + Increased independent operation owing to the navigation and survey equipment, which allows the vehicle to rapidly change fire positions and move autonomously. + Reduction of the combat crew. BM-30 carriers 12 launchers in total, which can be fired in 38 seconds. The reload time of the Smerch is roughly 17 minutes. And it takes just 3 minutes to deploy. Language of Video Presentation: Russian (Русский Язык). The БМ-30 "Смерч" (English: BM-30 "Tornado") or 9К58 (English: 9K58) is a Soviet heavy Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The system is designed to defeat manpower, armored and soft-skinned materiel in concentration areas, artillery batteries, command posts and ammunition depots. It was created in the early 1980s and entered service in the Soviet Union's Red Army in 1989. The main components of the 9K58 system are the following: 300mm 9M55 or 9M528 Rockets (in containers); BM 9A52-2 Launch Vehicle; TZM 9T234-2 Reloader Vehicle Automatd Fire Control System 1K123 "Vivary"; Maintenance vehicle PM-2-70 MTO-V. The rockets have a firing range of 70 and 90 km and various warheads have been developed for the system: High Explosion Fragmentation projectile 9M55F with simple warhead. The projectile is used to destroy fortifications, command points, missile launching positions, etc.; Cluster projectile 9K55K fitted with 72 combat elements. 10-16 of these projectiles are able to annihilate a motorised company; Cluster projectile 9K55K1 fitted with 5 self-guiding high-effective combat elements. 4 MLRSs launching such projectiles can defeat a tank company in it's concentration region. Russian Artillery Systems

MSTA-S, 2s9 "Nona", 2s31 "Vena", MSTA-B, Bm-21 "Grad", and Bm-30 "Smerch" are featured. Russian Artillery and indeed the military itself was kindled in the fires of World War Two. Over 130000 tons of Soviet artillery was dropped on Nazi Germany and its forces, while the second largest amount artillery during the second world war is claimed by the UK at 16000 tons fired. It is no doubt that Russia is the pioneer of artillery as we know it. As Russian artillery evolved to fight an even greater war fantastic systems were created such as the Bm-27 "Uragan" and the 2s3 "Akatsia". Today Russia's artillery system is second to none with the worlds largest number of various systems totaling more than 15200 pieces. Closest competitor is China with 12000 pieces.
