FIRST PERSON TO POST THIS SONG ON YOUTUBE HURRHURR I looked around youtube.com and found that for some reason no one had downloaded one of my favorite Arch Enemy songs (Black Earth from the album Stigmata) and decided to post it, with lyrics and everything. Please I don't want any complaints about how you think Johan Liiva sucks. There are a bunch of pages on youtube.com that would agree with you, but this is not one of them. The composer of the song, Aşık Veysel (1891-1973), was one of the last great Turkish balladeers and the final link in a thousand-year tradition. Veysel went blind during childhood following an attack of smallpox. He subsequently began to learn to play the Saz, a Turkish lute, and to study poetry, initially for his own amusement. He made acquaintance with a variety of folk poets, and, after 1928, also travelled from village to village with his songs. Through the years, he became a cultural symbol of the Turkish Republic. In the song Kara Toprak, Veysel describes loneliness and loss. All that remains is the Black Earth, the color of the landscape in his native town of Sivas. Fazil Say imitates the sound of the Saz through his selection of a muted effect in the Introduction and Epilogue of Black Earth - a meditation on the themes of a ballad. In contrast, folklore, Romantic piano style and jazz are entwined in the central sections to form a large-scale outburst. Fazil Say performs this works in both concerts of classical music and a jazz festivals particularly in the folkloristic sections, he employs the improvisatory freedom which is inherent to both folk music and jazz.

Lost:Black Earth was my first ever movie. I directed it back in 1999 and it was actually one of the very first digital movies (Yes, even before George Lucas did the digital Star Wars). All up it only cost around $AU10,000 to make. We shot it on weekends over a six month period and then I single handedly took on the post production, editing, visual effects, sound design, etc, over the next couple of years. At the time, it was a massive effort and an enormous amount of filmmaking and story telling knowledge was learned. More than you'd ever get sitting in a classroom or reading a book. Even though, looking back at it now there is so much to cringe about and so many things I can't believe I did. Since making this movie, my career has developed and I am now working in the film industry as an editor and visual effects artist and working at a Hollywood level. It doesn't matter if what you make is crap, at least you'll made something. Just by making something, you put yourself above 90% of the people who want to be filmmakers. A song from Arch Enemy's first studio album Black Earth. This is Arch Enemy pre-Angela Gossow when Johan Liiva was vocalist (1996 -- 2000). While I prefer Arch Enemy before Angela replaced Johan I'm still a fan of Arch Enemy even though the fan base has been overran with Angela fan boys not Arch Enemy fans. Love it or hate it Arch Enemy was a band before Angela and I would hope true fans of Arch Enemy will honor the past, respect the present and strive for years of death metal madness in the future from this great band.
