Why Horses Can't See when they Swim- Horse Vision Threat From Above- Rick Gore

www.thinklikeahorse.org Here I talk about why horses can't see when above and when their head is restricted, on the bit or collected. Horses have good vision but it requires the ability to focus which requires the ability to move their head. Tie downs, martins, over flexion and restriction of the head all affects a horse's vision. When a Horse is worried or sees something that concerns them, they will stare, move their head up, down and try to focus and adjust their eyes by that movement of the head. Anything thing that restricts that movement will impair the horses ability to see as good as they could. This will increase fear, confusion and stress in the horse. So realize that a horse is swimming it cannot adjust or move it's head, therefore they cannot see very well and can not see in front of them. Since horses do not get attacked much from the sky or from above, they do not look up much and cannot see above them, they have blind spots all over their body because of their eye placement and type of vision. The more you know and understand horse, the better you can make it for your horse.
