| *** Throughout the 1970s to 2001, Liberty City has been the home of the Three Families [the Forellis, the Leones and the Sindaccos], all dominating Liberty's criminal underworld through prostitution, gambling, corruption, extortion and murder. The Three Families had a full blown war in the 1990s, ending with their eventual downfall. 1970s - Sonny Forelli established control over the Forelli crime family with his reputation for illegal activities like racketeering, gambling, union troubles, corruption and prostitution. 1971 - To ensure his position as boss, Sonny orders the killings of several mob figures. Sonny sends his enforcer [Tommy Vercetti] to eliminate a mobster in Harwood. The killing becomes a massacre, resulting in the deaths of 11 people. Tommy "the Harwood Butcher" is captured by the LC police and is sentenced to 15 years in a federal maximum security prison. 1980s - The cocaine trade spreads throughout Vice City, Florida but the Liberty City mafia views narcotics as a "no go," fearing the potential risks. During the mid '80s, Salvatore Leone is titled the don of the Leone crime family during the aftermath of a bloody power struggle within the family. 1986 - Sonny Forelli attempts to invest millions in the coke buisness through a narcotics deal by sending Tommy Vercetti down south but the transaction becomes an ambush.
