Richard Durrant is best known for his solo performances as "The Guitar Whisperer" playing upwards of 70 shows each year throughout the UK and abroad. These performances, whilst centred around the nylon strung guitar, involve collaborations with leading visual artists and the use of digital media. This groundbreaking activity stands alongside Richard's diverse touring adventures from open-air recitals, to conventional theatre and music venues, and concerts in churches and cathedrals. He has performed frequently as guest soloist with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Richard is a musical polymath who uses the guitar as his main tool for musical exploration, but he is also a true multi-instrumentalist whose renditions of JS Bach on the "wrong" instruments (ukulele, banjo, mandolin etc..) are as beautiful as they are controversial. Richard can also be found working as music educator, community arts supporter, producer and composer. He has written for & collaborated with musicians from classical, folk and jazz backgrounds. His record label, LongMan Records (set up in 1995) reflects these wide musical interests; amongst many releases on the label he produced the seminal "The Secret of Life" by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
