Bersih 3.0 - The Attack! 28-4-12.3gp

Bersih ("Clean" in Malay) is an NGO advocating clean and fair elections through electoral reform. When the Malaysian government of Najib/UMNO/BN is so against clean and fair elections, it just makes you wonder how dirty and corrupt it is. Now its legitimacy is also in question! Did it win the general election in 2008 through a fair election, or through electoral fraud with the assistance of the partisan gerrymandering Election Commission? Otherwise why is it trying so hard to fight clean and fair elections? Myanmar used to the the laughing stock of Asean. Now they are laughing at the Malaysian PM! The Myanmar military must be very proud as they say imitation is the best flattery! PM Najib should not make a fool of himself and foreign leaders by going around the world preaching to others about democracy and moderation. In Malaysia, Malaysians can't even gather peacefully without the harassment and violent attacks by the police and government!

What is the Fair Elections Now Act? The bipartisan Fair Elections Now Act was offered this year by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (D-PA), and Reps. John Larson (D-CT) and Walter Jones (R-NC). With senior leaders in the Senate and House taking the lead, and 135 co-sponsors in the House alone, the bill has strong champions in both houses of Congress. Under this legislation, congressional candidates who raise a threshold number of small-dollar donations would qualify for a chunk of funding—several hundred thousand dollars for House, millions for many Senate races. If they accept this funding, they can't raise big-dollar donations. But they can raise contributions up to $100, which would be matched four to one by a central fund. Reduced fees for TV airtime is also an element of this bill, creating an incentive for politicians to opt into this system and run people-powered campaigns.

Bersih: Amendments remove safeguards from fraud

The coalition for clean and fair elections Bersih said today that the amendments to the Election Offences Act passed by the Dewan Rakyat early today remove safeguards from fraud. In particular, it feels the amendments are frustrating all plans laid out to nab phantom voters and reduce multiple voting. Speaking to reporters today, Bersih said the amendments - passed by the lower house after midnight - dilute the role of independent polling agents, who are now even told when they can enter the polling station to observe polling and counting of the ballots. 10 марта в Нижнем Новгороде на митинге "За честные выборы" задержано более 80 человек, Около 30 человек провели ночи в так называемых "обезьянниках". 11 марта они весь день провели в автобусах перед зданием суда. Суды начались только в 17.00. Неизвестные и не представившиеся подполковник и майор отдали приказ удерживать группу задержанных в здании суда. Задержанным сообщается, что они свободны, но покинуть это здание не могут до суда. При вынесении решения суд время их фактического задержания не учитывает. Сотрудники БСН блокируют вход. "Свободные" задержанные не могут выйти, а граждане, желающие посмотреть на судилище, не могут войти. О незаконном удержании граждан были проинформированы прокуратура области, полиция и служба собственной безопасности ГУ МВД. Однако противоправные действия сотрудников полиции никем не были пресечены. После произошедшего троих из задержанных (лидеров протестного движения города): Петра Типакова ("РОТ-Фронт"), Стаса Дмитриевского ("Стратегия-31"), Илью Шамазова ("Другая Росссия"),- увезли из суда, а в 0:30 мск 12 марта (после 33,5 часов административного задержания) отпустили из отделения полиции без объяснений причин и без копий протоколов о задержании...
