| At Ravan's orders, his men set out to awaken Kumbhakarna. After trying a lot of antics, they provide delicious food, the flavor of which awakens him. Ravan orders earthen-lamps lit in celebration of his awakening. Kumbhakarna's wife Vajrimala is doing a vrath for her husband when she's informed by her sons Kumbha and Nikumbha that Kumbhakarna has been woken up by Ravan. She is worried at the untimely awakening of Kumbhakarna [Note: Kumbhakarna's boon allowed for him to sleep 6 months at a stretch, and if he was woken up outside his schedule, his life would be endangered, which explains her worry here]. They set off to look for Kumbhakarna and receive him, and are informed by a guard that he has gone to meet Ravan. |
