29 years old and hearing myself for the 1st time!

I was born deaf and 8 weeks ago I received a hearing implant. Hearing Test

Set your volume to regular settings, as if you were watching any YouTube movie. Watch Hearing Test and listen very carefully using headphones. The video displays audio frequencies that are being played. You can determine what you can or what you cannot hear. Typically, depending on age, audible frequencies will be between 20-30 Hertz on the low side of the audio spectrum, and 10-16 kiloHertz on the high side of the audio spectrum. There are individuals, however, who can can hear the whole spectrum between 16 Hz (Hertz) and 20 kHz (kiloHertz). Because of the encoding used during the audio preparation, tests above 18 kHz are not very reliable. Please make sure that you do not increase the volume just to see if you can hear anything! Auditory Transduction (2002)

This 7-minute video by Brandon Pletsch takes viewers on a step-by-step voyage through the inside of the ear, to the acoustic accompaniment of classical music. Pletsch, a former medical illustration student at the Medical College of Georgia, first built a physical ear model and mapped which frequency ranges hit which parts of the inner ear. He then created digital renderings of each part of the hearing pathway using several software packages. A narrator describes how the sound waves travel through each portion of the ear, and how hair cells translate the vibrations they induce into nerve impulses.

The Ear: the Organ of Hearing

The Ear: the Organ of Hearing The ear is the organ of hearing. The pinna of the outer ear collects sound waves and channels them along the external auditory meatus to the ear drum. The eardrum vibrates and mechanical waves are transmitted by the ossicles, three small bones of the middle ear-the malleus, incus and stapes-to the cochlea of the inner ear. The cochlea, a coiled tube filled with fluid, contains the organ of Corti. Fluid waves, created within the cochlea, excite nerve cells in the organ of Corti, which send impulses along the auditory nerve to the brain. The semicircular canals, the saccule and the utricle are concerned with balance and the posture of the body.

Haiti Mission Trailer with Miley Cyrus The Starkey Hearing Foundation embarked on a life-changing mission to Haiti after the earthquake to give the gift of hearing to more than 500 children affected by profound hearing loss. Renowned singer and actress Miley Cyrus volunteered on the mission, joining our efforts at Institut Montfort School for the deaf in Port au Prince, Haiti. Cyrus's hard work and spirit were a special part of the mission and—as this short clip reveals—had joyous results. Starkey Hearing Foundation's Haiti Hearing Mission was one of the many conducted each year both domestically and internationally. All Starkey Hearing Foundation missions include the distribution of hearing aids and batteries, custom fittings, audio testing, and counseling on how to care for the devices to individuals in need that are affected by hearing loss. The Foundation will return to Haiti on mission with Miley Cyrus in 2012 to continue worldwide efforts to share the gift of hearing with those who have hearing loss.
