| In a battlefield simulation at the Shizafon army base in southern Israel, the Israeli Defence Forces showcased its capabilities in a combined-forces combat demonstration and allowed us to observe. This annual exercise is meant to prepare the IDF's commands and divisions for real-life situations in potential future wars. IDF's Major Idan Moran told us, "What we saw here at the exhibition -- it's a demonstration of a company joint task force that conquers a village on urban terrain, and we have a task force that was combined from an infantry company, a tank platoon, an armoured tractor with the engineers, and we have the infantry cover-fire company. "The exercise demonstrates the company joint task force conquering, this time the village simulated a Syrian village, but it can also be Lebanese and other villages or urban terrain. In every company we'll always have casualties, and the tanks will have problems or get hit. And we show to the cadets the different ways to evacuate, whether it's the tank that you saw the tractor pulling the tank, or evacuating injured men or injured soldiers inside the tanks or on the mules." |
