Desperate to escape their past, some have begun a painful path to rehabilitation. Gang activity has taken its toll in Honduras, the country recently classified by the UN as the most violent in the world. Around 20 homicides occur every day, totaling almost 7000 a year. In capital city Tegucigalpa, members of the 18 and the MS13 are marked men and women, their violent pasts charted from head to toe across their bodies. For those trying to quit, these markings are an inescapable anchor to gang life. Former "bandida" Sherry explains, "here, for wearing a tattoo, youngsters die on a daily basis. This tattoo could lead me to the grave". There is only one expert in tattoo removal in Honduras, but he has provided hope to thousands trying to escape their past. For Sherry the motivation to break out of the cycle of violence is the fear of passing on a violent legacy to the next generation. "My kids should not have to endure what I have endured." May 2012

Guatemala - An American Genocide - September 1999

Beneath the lush green hills of Guatemala lie one hundred thousand corpses, the victims of a genocide funded by the US Government. Around a newly discovered mass grave crowd the weeping relatives of Guatemala's lost generation of Mayan Indians. 20 years ago these Mayan men, women and children were condemned as communist guerrillas and massacred. Until now these killings have been blamed on insurgents and vigilantes. But the army-issue bullets being extracted from these skulls by US forensic archaeologists tell a different story. The 400 newly discovered massacre sites are the handiwork of the Guatemalan Army, but they did not act alone -- the CIA told them how to do it. Fearful of Red-spread right on America's doorstep the Reagan administration armed and trained Guatemala's army to stamp-out the communist threat. Veterans of the Reagan administration make no apology for their political agenda. "It seemed clear to us that if you had a Nicaragua in Guatemala, what you've got is... a Soviet style government with secret police agents on the border of Mexico", explains Eliot Abrahms, the then Assistant Secretary of State. Anything was justified to contain the threat, including as is now revealed, turning a blind eye to genocide. Recently released CIA manuals issued to the army explain how to murder people, they even explain how to enter a room with ten people sitting round a table and murder them one by one. Fan music video of one of the greater songs made. Journeyman by Iron Maiden. The video is from the Death on the Road Tour, and is in real sync (not just put live clips over her and there). Its from the concert played at Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany, on 24 November 2003. The audio is ripped from the CD (not the speaking par though) to a lossless format for best possible quality of sound. The pictures are courtesy of plenty of google searches, and are inserted at key moments to fit in with the lyrics. The lyrics are onscreen and halfway modified to fit the live version (only some of the differences from the studio version are there). I am a guitarist my self, and this band is the reason I´ve sat down till my fingers have bleed playing guitar :) This video was put to getter in about 4 hours, with iMovie on a MacBook Pro. And I have virtually next to nothing experience with editing movies. "You should see their way of living. They live in smelly barns in multiples of ten," a Russian police chief tells us as he drives towards the Korean village. Speaking to the Korean loggers as they take a cigarette break the picture is painted in even starker terms: "What he's saying here is that the majority of workers have a ten-year plus labour commitment to live and work in the middle of nowhere for almost no pay." So why do they do it? As ever the North Korea propoganda machine is present to remind the workers of the 'home land' and the wise teachings of Kim Jong-Il and his father Kim Il Sung. A sign at the town reads: "Kim Il Sung lives with us forever." Yet travelling into one of the strangest of North Korea's frontiers, it is clear that the hermit kingdom's isolationist tactics are not paying off in these camps. Bamboo Railway - Cambodia

November 2006 Enterprising locals in Battambang, Cambodia, have developed a unique railway. It's made from recycled tank wheels, small motorcycle engines and lashings of bamboo. Cambodia's main train service only runs four times a month and derailments are common. Little wonder locals prefer a different option. 'Norries' are little more than bamboo slabs with wheels and run on the state-built track. With a top speed of 50 km per hour, the norry network is far superior to the train.
