| After the construction of a small-sized catapult (you can see the video in my channel), my brother and I said "The catapult is too small... what about building a bigger one?"... So, I started yesterday building an Onager. For those who don't know about medieval siege weaponry, an Onager is a catapult, just like a Trebuchet or a Mangonel. In Age Of Empires II, the Onager comes as the evolution of the Mangonel, and you can also upgrade it into a Siege Onager. Also, in the game the Onager appears to have wheels, unlike in some pics, where is shown without any kind of movement parts, that means that the weapon has to stand still. We think that Onagers had wheels in the Medieval Age, so (since the model was not very big) we put them. The LEGO Onager my brother and I built is way bigger than the Catapult we previously made. It also features a different trigger. You remember how the Catapult was triggered, right? If you don't, I will tell you: it was a piece of wire that tied the arm and the main body together, preventing the rubberband from pulling the arm. When you wanted to fire, you had to either cut or untie the wire (the second option is possible if you make a particular kind of tie that can be untied by pulling the wire in a specific part). The Onager's trigger is a simple stick that is inserted through the main body and the arm, blocking them together: at the moment of the launch, just remove the stick, and the arm is released. This makes the launch much more accurate ... |
