Dogfights: Luftwaffe's Deadliest Mission part 1

In the face of the wholesale destruction of their homeland, young Germans were motivated to destroy American bombers by any means necessary. On 7th April 1945 a volunteer unit, called the Sonderkommando ELBE, took to the sky with one goal in mind and that was to use their own aircraft as battering rams to destroy American bombers. Rare interviews with the German pilots who mounted these attacks offer an unprecedented view into the mindset of these ram-pilots.

FHC Luftwaffe Day - Focke Wulf 190 A-5 and Messerschmitt Bf-109E-3 Emil

Visit my blog at: fight2flyphoto.blogspot.com Saturday, August 6, 2011 was a historic day in aviation history as the worlds only flying original Focke-Wulf 190 flew in formation with one of only two airworthy Messerschmitt Bf-109 E-3s. The Focke-Wulf 190A-5 features its original BMW motor and was restored to the exact condition it was in during its service in World War Two. This was the first time these two aircraft were in the sky together since WWII. Both of these aircraft belong to Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection in Everett, Washington, home of the flying warbirds. Video was shot with Canon VIXIA HG20 To purchase photographs of these amazing aircraft, visit imagekind.com and do a search for the specific aircraft.

Luftwaffe Mistel (1945)

Excerpt from www.youtube.com The Mistel (German for "Mistletoe"), also known as Beethoven-Gerät (Beethoven Device) and Vati und Sohn (Father and Son), was a Luftwaffe composite aircraft type of bomber, that appeared late in World War II. The scheme originally involved replacing the entire nose-located crew compartment of a bomber airframe (usually a Junkers Ju 88 variant) with a specially-designed nose filled with a large load of explosive, and guiding it to its target by a fighter aircraft mounted above it on a set of struts. After releasing the bomber, the fighter would return to base. The first such composite aircraft flew in July 1943 and was promising enough to begin a programme by Luftwaffe test unit KG 200, code-named "Beethoven". Wings of the Luftwaffe - Me-110 - Destroyer (7 of 13)

Complete Series Playlist Link below: www.youtube.com The Bf 110 served with success in the early campaigns, the Polish, Norwegian and Battle of France. The Bf 110's lack of agility in the air was its primary weakness. This flaw was exposed during the Battle of Britain, when some Bf 110-equipped units were withdrawn from the battle after very heavy losses and redeployed as night fighters, a role to which the aircraft was well suited. The Bf 110 enjoyed a successful period following the Battle of Britain as an air superiority fighter and strike aircraft in other theatres. During the Balkans Campaign, North African Campaign and on the Eastern Front, it rendered valuable ground support to the German Army as a potent fighter-bomber (Jagdbomber or Jabo). Later in the war, it was developed into a formidable night fighter, becoming the major night-fighting aircraft of the Luftwaffe. Most of the German night fighter aces flew the Bf 110 at some point during their combat careers, and the top night fighter ace of all time, Major Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, flew it exclusively and claimed 121 victories in 164 combat missions. A tribute using "An deinem Grab" by Megaherz. Corrections: Walter Wolfram is actually "Walter Wolfrum." Hans Beerenbrock is actually "Franz-Josef Beerenbrock." Adolf Glunz is actually "Adolf Glünz." My apologies to the pilots whose names I messed up.

Wings of the Luftwaffe - Sea Planes - (13 of 13)

Complete Series Playlist Link below: www.youtube.com In Luftwaffe service, sea planes were becoming obsolete by the outbreak of World War II, but - as the only military flying boat - 62 (58 serviceable) in 6 squadrons were in use mainly on North Sea reconnaissance missions. In 1940 some squadrons changed their base to Norway. The vulnerable and underpowered flying boat was soon relegated to training and the air/sea rescue role.
