A Trip to the Moon / Le Voyage dans la lune - 1902

A Trip to the Moon (French: Le Voyage dans la lune) is a 1902 French black and white silent science fiction film. It is loosely based on two popular novels of the time: From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne and The First Men in the Moon by HG Wells The film was written and directed by Georges Méliès, assisted by his brother Gaston. The film runs 14 minutes if projected at 16 frames per second, which was the standard frame rate at the time the film was produced. It was extremely popular at the time of its release and is the best-known of the hundreds of fantasy films made by Méliès. A Trip to the Moon is the first science fiction film, and utilizes innovative animation and special effects, including the iconic shot of the rocketship landing in the moon's eye t was named one of the 100 greatest films of the 20th century by The Village Voice, ranking in This Version features a Soundtrack by Erich Wolfgang Korngold & Laurence Rosenthal

The Haunted Castle 1896 Silent Film. Early Geoge Melies filmed. Le Manoir du diable (English: The Haunted Castle) is a three-minute-long French film directed by Georges Méliès. The film contained many traditional pantomime elements and was intentionally meant to amuse people, rather than frighten them. Nonetheless, it is considered to be the first horror film. In English, this film has been known as The Haunted Castle, The Devil's Castle, The Devil's Manor, and The Manor of the Devil. It was released on Christmas Eve, 1896, at the Theatre Robert Houdin, 8 boulevard des Italiens, Paris.

Georges Melies - The Vanishing Lady - 1896

Audio Skore's, Shannon Harris was asked to arrange and perform in 2008 a series of a short scores live featuring the works of the legendary Georges Melies. Seeing that this type of film was several generations before my time I found it challenging to adapt/connect to the material but was able to do the 23 film scores with rehearsal for live performance in 3 days. (In 1913 Georges Méliès' film company was forced into bankruptcy by the large French and American studios and his company was bought out of receivership by Pathé Frères. After being driven out of business Méliès became a toy salesman at the Montparnasse station. In 1932 the Cinema Society gave Méliès a home in Chateau D'Orly. Melies did not grasp the value of his films, and having some 500 films recorded on cellulose the French Army seized most of this stock to be melted down into boot heels during World War I. Many of the other films were sold to be recycled into new film. As a result many of these films do not exist today.) A Trip to the Moon (Part 1)

Part 1 of 2. This represents several months of work. I have taken Georges Melies' 1902 classic film "A Trip to the Moon" (Une Voyage dans la Lune), the first science fiction film ever produced, and dubbed on an original soundtrack! If I get a good enough reception I might make tracks from this piece available... Sorry I couldn't make the audio quality a little better for YouTube. The music is inspired by a number of artists from the early days of electronica, including Kraftwerk, Vangelis, and even Rick Wakeman. So yeah... I took a 104 year old film and made it into a music video for my own experiments in electronic music. Feedback appreciated!
