Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

A short video of Bamburgh Castle and beach. This was early October, and while the sun is shining and there are beautiful blue skies, don't be fooled, it was "bitter" cold! The wind was literally blowing me along the beach as you can see when I film the sea foam, I have never seen anything like it. Northumberland beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen, but the high price to pay is the terrible artic winds that blow straight down to them. When its hot here, its beautiful, but once those cold gales start, its virtually impossible to function. On the video you will see an archway in the castle, as we walked through it, we had to turn around and face away from the wind as it literally stole the breath from your lungs. Even so, Northumberland is a stunning place to visit, very rich with History and you can literally stand on the beach infront of a Castle and see another in the distance. On this video you can see Lindisfarne Castle on the Holy Island on a few of the photo's in the distance. The larger island you see is one of the Farne Islands. ...oh NO! I just realised I spelled Bamburgh wrong on the video at the beginning.. so accept my apologies, there is no way I am taking it down after all the lovely compliments on it, just close your eyes on that bit ok :) lol Hope you enjoy.. Lindisfarne, Northumberland

Holy Island (Lindisfarne) is situated off the Northumberland coast in the north of the UK, just a few miles south of the border between England and Scotland. The island is linked to the mainland by a causeway which twice a day is covered by the tide. Possibly the holiest site of Anglo-Saxon England, Lindisfarne was founded by St. Aidan, an Irish monk, who came from Iona, the centre of Christianity in Scotland. St Aidan converted Northumbria to Christianity at the invitation of its king, Oswald. St. Aidan founded Lindisfarne Monastery on Holy Island in 635, becoming its first Abbot and Bishop. The Lindisfarne Gospels, a 7th century illuminated Latin manuscript written here, is now in the British Museum in London but should rightfully be returned to Northumbria. The island of Lindisfarne with its wealthy monastery was a favourite stop-over for Viking raiders from the end of the 8th century. These Vikings raiders obviously concerned the monks somewhat as they vacated the monastery and did not return for 400 years. Lindisfarne continued as an active religious site from the 12th century until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1537. It seems to have become disused by the early 18th Century.

Warkworth, Northumberland

A short tour of Warkworth, Northumberland, UK in February 2008 The magnificent cross-shaped keep of Warkworth Castle, crowning a hilltop rising steeply above the River Coquet, dominates one of the largest, strongest and most impressive fortresses in northern England. The castle's most famous owners were the Percy family, whose lion badge can be seen carved on many parts of their stronghold. Wielding almost kingly power in the north, their influence reached its apogee under the first Earl of Northumberland and his son 'Harry Hotspur', hero of many Border ballads as the bane of Scots raiders and a dominant character in Shakespeare's Henry IV. Having helped to depose Richard II, these turbulent 'kingmakers' both fell victim to Henry IV: the next three Percy Earls likewise died violent deaths. Still roofed and almost complete, the uniquely-planned keep dates mainly from the end of the 14th century. It presides over the extensive remains of a great hall, chapel, fine gatehouse and a virtually intact circuit of towered walls. Half a mile from the castle, tucked away by the Coquet and accessible only by boat, stands a much more peaceful building: the late medieval cave Hermitage and chapel of a solitary holy man. Honours!!
