| During the summer of 2005 I put on a parade for the Festival of Lacaze, a small town nestled in the Midi Pyrenees. Local residents and volunteers marched in my sculptures celebrating the untamed nature. I had trout swimming in a river, large mushrooms and a giant yellow moonflower. Because it was a music festival I was able to mix costumes with an African Griot who performed alongside French, Klezmer, and Indian musicians. I became a welcome member of their village. After I left my sculptures remained to restart a nearly forgotten local tradition, Les festival du char. Long time residents were moved to tears reliving their childhoods. This level of integration makes the work successful. |
