US to Occupy Persian Gulf? 'Iran is not a sitting duck!'

The US is sending another escorted aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf, saying it's a routine mission. An escalating verbal conflict between Tehran and Washington has been also made worse by the assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist on Wednesday. Karen Kwiatkowski, a retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, who worked in the Pentagon and the National Security Agency explained to RT that Western powers are unlikely to invade Iran. Three disputed Iranian Islands in the Persian Gulf-Iran Today-04-27-2012

On the 10th of April 2012 Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, visited Hormozgan as part of his 4th trip to all the provinces. The next day, he visited Abu Musa, a small island situated between two others, the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb. The United Arab Emirates wasn't happy about this, and recalled its ambassador for consultation. Even a friendly football match that was supposed to be held on the 17th of April between Iran and the UAE was canceled. On the same day the US foreign ministry spokesman Mark Turner said Washington supported the referral of the case to The International Court of Justice. He also called on Iran to agree to direct talks with the UAE on the matter. The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council held a meeting immediately after Ahmadinejad's visit, condemning it as a violation of the UAE's national sovereignty. Regarding the ownership of the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb, Iran says there is nothing to talk about, they belong to Iran, but as a good will gesture Tehran says it will sit down to talks to resolve any misunderstandings that might have occurred. Political wrangling between Iran and the UAE over the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb and especially Abu Musa, has increased in recent years. Since 1971 when British forces pulled out of this island, the Iranian government announced that Abu Musa is part of Iran, and asserted that claim by sending troops there. Iran says throughout history, these three islands were part of its territory, and remain so today ...

Iran threatens action if US returns to Persian Gulf

Iran has warned the United States it will take action if an American warship returns to the Persian Gulf. It left the area when Iran started its 10-day naval war games, during which they successfully test-fired a number of different missiles. But Russia's defence ministry says that despite the latest military exercise, the Iranians don't have the technology to make intercontinental ballistic missiles. Meanwhile France is pushing for stricter sanctions as it says it's sure Tehran is developing nuclear weapons. It's urged EU countries to follow the US in freezing Iranian central bank assets and imposing an embargo on oil exports. Tehran has been threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz - one of the world's most important oil routes - if the West stepped up sanctions. IRAN MILITARY GAME CHANGER SUPERSONIC PERSIAN GULF ANTISHIP BALLISTIC MISSILE TEST

www.terminalx.org ------------------- Iran to test supersonic missiles at sea The Aerospace Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said Iran plans to test-fire new "supersonic surface-to- sea missiles" as part of its war games in the Persian Gulf in the coming days, the English language satellite Press TV reported on Monday. Hajizadeh said that the new missiles have been designed to target ships and forces at sea, said the report. "Last year, we achieved (the technology of) new anti-ship missiles that can hit targets with multiple speed of sound," he was quoted as saying. The upgraded missiles will soon be used in the naval phase of the IRGC's ongoing Great Prophet 6 missile drills. The senior naval commander of the IRGC, Brigadier General Ali Razmjou, said Sunday that his forces are equipped with modern short and medium range missiles in the Persian Gulf. Razmjou said "a considerable number of speed vessels, and vessels that can carry different kinds of missile and torpedo launchers have joined the IRGC's Navy." Supplying the IRGC forces with advanced equipment was aimed at increasing "Iran's defensive and deterrence power" in order to "maintain the stable security of the strategic area of the Persian Gulf," Razmjou was quoted as saying by Press TV. "The powerful presence of the IRGC in the Persian Gulf, including its speed vessels and missile stations on the isles and shores has caused the foreign naval fleets to ...

Iranian Navy drills 2011 in Persian Gulf for regional security

A 10 day drill in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Aden by Iran's navy. The drill seeks to stretch Iran's naval presence through international waters, control and protect Iranian and foreign ships, counter piracy and terrorism, and improve the country's defense tactics. That according to the commanders of Iran's Basij and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. Commander Jafari was addressing an inauguration ceremony to appoint Brigadier General Mohsen Kazemeini as the new commander of IRGC Division in Tehran. Also speaking to Press TV, Iran's Basij Force Commander said the naval drill is the first of its kind, because it covers 2000 kilometers. He also said the war games pose no threat to Iran's Persian Gulf neighbors. Some 40 percent of the world's oil supply passes through the strait of Hormuz. The commander of Basij Force dismissed Western claims that Iran plans to close the Strait of Hormuz during the military exercises. Iran launched the massive naval exercise on Saturday. The Navy is expected to employ new classes of submarines, drones, ground-to-sea missiles and torpedoes during the ten-day maneuvers.

Video of US carrier filmed from Iran plane during drill in Persian Gulf

An Iranian warplane has spotted a US aircraft carrier during Tehran's ongoing navy drill in the Persian Gulf, reports IRNA news agency. The US fleet's maneuvers come after Iran threatened to block the oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran's surveillance jet has shot a video and pictures of the American carrier, which was later identified as John C. Stennis. The US Fifth Fleet keeps a military base in Bahrain, while the ship was spotted in the Gulf of Oman after crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state TV also showed images of the Iranian exercise, which is taking place in international waters near the Strait of Hormuz - the passageway for one-sixth of the world's oil supply. The US Navy's Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet is also active in the area, as are warships of several other countries that patrol for pirates there. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com
