| 'Dance with the wolves' by Ruslana, Ukrainian singer is dedicated to the events that took place in Ukraine, 2004. At that time corrupted and pro-Russian Ukrainian government overturned democratic election of a president, and nominated their candidate, who lost an election, as a president. To protect democracy, hundreds of thousands of people began peaceful mass protests on main city squares, and especially on "Square of independence," Kyiv (Maidan Nezalezhnosti). These civil disobedience protests became to be known as "Orange Revolution." People stood in the cold and dirty tents in the middle of a winter for couple of months and never left "Square of independence." They won their right to elect a candidate, who previously won presidential election. Ones again Ukraine returned to its old practice of democracy started long time ago by free and fearless ancestors called Cossacks. Some shots on this video are real shots from "Orange Revolution," and when they were made no one knew for sure that police will not open a fire at the people at any time. I was there too for couple of days, and I'm proud to be part of a great Ukrainian nation. |
