Montreal Mayhem: 'Protests grow beyond just student issue'

Student protests in Canada escalate as nearly 700 people were arrested on Wednesday night alone. The rallies against the proposed tuition fee increases have been going on for over a 100 days in Quebec. Many of those detained were carted off in public buses, which police converted into temporary holding pens. The demonstrations swelled after Quebec's government passed emergency laws last week to make the protests more difficult to organize. Outlaw Occupy: US set to strangle protests with jail threats

New York City police are investigating death threats made against staff through the phone and on twitter. This after officers forcibly arrested more than 70 people during an Occupy Wall Street protest. Since the start of the movement, nationwide protests have faced numerous cases of police brutality with batons and tear gas often used to disperse crowds. As the movement continues, so too does Washington's desire to silence the American public, as RT's Marina Portnaya explains. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Obama outlaws Freedom of Protest

With the stroke of a pen, President Obama signed bill HR 347 into law earlier this month. With that move, Obama made it a felony to express freedom of speech in America. The Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act that effortlessly passed the House and the Senate is a law that most Americans don't know about but could put them behind bars for up to 10 years. The law states it is a prosecutable offense to without lawful authority enter a building or grounds of a special event of national significance or enter a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting. David Seaman, journalist and host of the DL Show, joins us to talk about how, along with the NDAA, HR 347 is detrimental to the First Amendment. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

Video: Violence erupts at 'illegal' student protest in Canada

Week-long demonstrations over a proposed rise in university tuition fees have erupted into violence in Quebec. Police in Montreal clashed with thousands of students who accuse the government of sabotaging negotiations for a settlement. Riot police have so far arrested 85 people after a government exclusion of a student group from talks triggered activist ire. Students have flooded Montreal's streets over the past few days, up in arms over tuition fee hikes that would see costs rise by 75 percent over the next five years. Thursday's riots were declared illegal after demonstrators reportedly pelted police officers with projectiles and threw garbage into the streets. Bahrain's Formula 404: Protests Not Found?

In Bahrain, there are no signs of violence dying down - with police firing tear gas at protesters during yet more clashes in the capital Manama. Anti-government demonstrations have been intensifying since the weekend when the world's eyes were on the Formula One Grand Prix race there. But as the world's top drivers went home, foreign criticism of the regime seems to have gone with them. RT's Irina Galushko reports. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Drones to patrol US protests?

In January of 2012, the US Congress passed legislation that will open up the US sky to unmanned drones. The robotic aircraft will be used for military and police operations and will add to America's current arsenal of around 7000 drones. According to some accounts, peaceful protest might be a reason that feds would deploy the unmanned craft. There are currently 300 active drone permits in the US, but will that soon swell out of control? Amie Stepanovich, a member of the National Security Council for EPIC, joins us for more.
