Peace Dead? 'Houla massacre Al-Qaeda act'

The UN Security Council has strongly condemned the murder of 108 men, women and children in the Syrian village of Houla. According to initial reports, many of the victims were executed at point blank-range. The Syrian government has flat-out rejected responsibility for the murders - saying a third-party is behind the slaughter - aimed at destabilizing the situation. Syria's largest and best armed rebel group reacted to the slaughter saying it won't abide by an international ceasefire unless the UN intervenes. RT's correspondent Anastasia Churkina has more on the Security Council's response. Also the rebels are adamant that the blame for the Houla massacre lies with the government. But former Pentagon official Michael Maloof says the rebels' side of the story just doesn't add up. This amid warnings that Washington's continuing efforts against the Syrian regime could see it fighting side by side with Al Qaeda. RT's Gayane Chichakyan reports. Mr Weinstein, 70, an aid expert living in Pakistan, was kidnapped by armed men in the city of Lahore last August. The short video was posted to Islamist websites on Sunday, according to Site. Yemeni fears over al-Qaeda expansion

Al-Qaeda's growing presence in southern Yemen is raising fresh concerns ahead of the country's singe-candidate presidential election this week. Last May, the city of Zinjibar fell to a group affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. A failed military offensive to push the group out of the city left massive destruction and triggered an exodus of refugees. While remaining residents worry over the lack of security, it is said al-Qaeda is looking to expand its reach within the country. Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reports from Aden.
