Japan closes last reactor, 'energy crisis looms'

Japan is set to turn off its last working reactor this weekend, leaving one of the world's largest industrial nations without a source of nuclear energy for the first time in almost 50 years. The government has bowed to public pressure following last year's disaster at the Fukushima power plant after the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami. Fukushima I Nuke Plant 3rd Press Tour on 5/26/2012, Reactor 4 Bldg

For the first time, the representatives of the press (4 reporters from the Cabinet Office Press Club) went up to the operation floor (top floor) of the Reactor 4 building. The radiation level on the operation floor was 330 microsieverts/hour, according to Kyodo News, significantly less than other units where the radiation levels are measured in millisievert/hour. Reactor 4 Building (Inside, Top Floor) at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant

The video was taken when the deputy minister of the Cabinet Office visited the plant on April 24, 2012. He went inside the reactor building to inspect the support structure for the Spent Fuel Pool, and went up to the operation floor to view the SFP. Around unit four, moves to unit 4 2nd floor, bottom of Spent Fuel Pool #4, and on to the 5th floor of reactor 4. What an Absolute NIGHTMARE!!! I would love to hear what they are saying. Inside the Fukushima I Nuke Plant Reactor 2 Containment Vessel, 1/19/2012

TEPCO conducted the endoscopy of the Containment Vessel of Reactor 2 to see the inside. TEPCO's spokesman Matsumoto said in the press conference that the white specs in the video is from gamma rays. White streaks across the screen are water droplets. The endoscope is made by Olympus. Drilling the hole on the Containment Vessel was done on January 17, requiring 40 workers in 10 teams. The endoscopy operation on January 19 took 34 workers, one hour, working right next to the Containment Vessel.
