This particular model has a 3" barrel with a 1" compensator, and "kick" doesn't even describe it. Even though I regularly shoot high caliber handguns, I needed to take extra precautions in order to handle this beast safely. I only loaded one round into the cylinder at a time. Because the recoil is so intense, it is very easy to "double tap" and accidentally fire a second round. It's very possible to shoot the 500 safely, and accurately, but if you haven't handled one before, be aware of the massive recoil... and be safe :] I find it humorous how the S&W 500 looks like such a cannon in my hands ...and that's just how the recoil feels when I fire it. There just isn't a whole lot of Destinee behind that monster of a wheel gun, and the kick owns me. However, I did take precautions to make the shooting experience a safe one, and I managed to hit the target (35' downrange), and holy freaksauce, Batman, those 325gr .500 Magnum JHP rounds are a blast! (pun possibly intended...) I look forward to shooting this again.
