Demopolis Lock Whirlpools!

Video of Demopolis Lock filling it's chamber with water so a boat can be locked going upstream. These whirlpools are formed on the river that runs near Demopolis, Alabama. These are NOT naturally occurring whirlpools and instead occur because large pipes under the water suck water into the area behind me (not seen in video until I turn to walk off the bridge/platform area, it's the place to the left) and fill it with water so boats can easily navigate the river without having to load/unload boats onto higher/lower areas all the time. I wanted to record the entirety of this video because I never knew what a whirlpool looked like when it was forming. Honestly, I think that's the most interesting part - not the fact that they are A) So big B) TWO of them and C) THEY ARE SPINNING OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. :D This video is meant for educational purposes. Teachers: Go ahead, use it in class. I know I've already had a couple of my high school teachers want to show it in class and I gave them the go ahead. I'd prefer if people not to reproduce this video content unless they are making an educational video in which this is being used as an example. Have fun guys and gals, and I hope that this is a better description than was here before.

The Whirlpool Of THOROLD (BETTER VIEW)

about 10 feet below the water surface is a huge tube. This is what causes the vortex. If you fall in, you will die, the tube will carry you at a very fast rate right to the valve pit, the from there you will be extruded through several small openings. its part of a working canal. the water goes through a tube and over a spillway. the "vortex" is caused by the water being drained out of the pond so quickly. this all has to do with the welland canal. located in Ontario Canada.

Whirlpool -undersea storms getting huge!

Four giant whirlpools last year, 2011. One from the 8.9 earthquake in Japan and two giant mysterious ones in the Alantic of the coast of Guyana and Suriname that were aprox 400 kilometers wide. The we had the El Heirro whirlpool caused by under water volcanic eruption. It's only february, 2012 and we have had a whirlpool accident in Vietnam and now the appearance of the giant bizarre phenomenon was spotted when the Terra satellite was conducting a routine natural-colour image of the Earth. This counter-clockwise eddy is thought to have peeled off from the Agulhas Current, which flows along the southeastern coast of Africa and around the tip of South Africa. This guy is 150 kilometers -wide. The three giant whirlppols in open waters are a real mystery. When ocean currents run vertically I think we need to pay attention. We have lots of naturally occuring explainable whirlpools but these three sure make me wonder. The mightiest vortex in the world is near the Arctic Circle. It is called The Maelstrom of Saltstraumen and is near Norway and creates the strongest tidal currents on earth. Over 100000 gallons of water surge through the narrow strait that connects Skjerstadfjord and Saltenfjord. Moskstraumen is almost as strong as the Saltstraumen whirlpool. powerful circular currents of water that reach speeds of 17.27 mph as the most destructive whirlpool.
