Benedict XVI: The Spirit guides us to the heights of God

In a world where "with geographical distances seem to disappear," the progress of science and technology can "dominate the forces of nature", to the point of "manufacturing humans", but also "imbalances that frequently lead to conflicts" where "dialogue between generations is hard and differences sometimes prevail ". These were some of the considerations expressed by Benedict XVI, presiding at Mass for Pentecost Sunday. The Pope recalled that this is the feast of "human unity, understanding and sharing ", because the Spirit of God is "a new heart and a new language." "The Holy Spirit, breaking into history, overcomes dryness, opens hearts to hope, and stimulates and fosters in us an inner maturity in the relationship with God and with our neighbor." These were the words of Pope Benedict XVI at today's Regina Coeli. Benedict XVI meets the president of Costa Rica

On Monday Benedict XVI received the president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla Miranda, in audience at the Vatican. During their cordial discussions the parties highlighted the good relations that exist between the Holy See, the local Church and the State, expressing the hope that they may be strengthened by an Agreement respectful of the identity of the country and of the healthy autonomy and collaboration between civil and ecclesiastical authorities.
