Tie the 'Windsor' knot

The Windsor knot, also (wrongly) known as the "Double-Windsor" (a non-existing enormous 16-move knot), is the most well known knot in the world. The Windsor is a large, symmetrical, self-releasing triangular knot. The tie was named by Americans in the 1920-30's after the Duke of Windsor. The Duke was known for his fondness of large triangular tie knots, but didn't in fact invent this particular knot. His secret was a specially tailored tie with an extra thickness of material. There are four tie-versions that result in the "Windsor" knot; two self releasing, and two non-self releasing. This version filmed here is considered as the original (self releasing) version. The video is to be viewed as if you were looking in a mirror. -

Update: Hey all! I've been on digg and life hacker trying to reply, but because of a firewall, I have to comment here via phone. Thanks for all the comments both positive and negative! I can't believe that I'd be top on digg! Just to reply to some comments. I actually don't wear this knot at all these days, save for once in a blue moon. I put up the video 2 years ago, and I realize it would be a bit douchey to wear it all the time. Being Asian, I was never blessed with the tall gene. I'm 5'7" and it works with all my ties, but I do like to wear my ties shorter. I knew by putting this video, that I would get a lot of hate for the knot, but that alien penis joke is a hit! I'm not a super perv or anything, but there is definetely a crazy amount of alien tenticles used as a penis in hentai. All joking aside, thanks for digging this up. I have since quit myspace for facebook, so I wouldn't even bother commenting there. Also, if anyone can help me post this on digg or life hacker, I'll owe you a cookie. Thanks again! EDIT!!! To complete this How-To you will need: A bow tie A dress shirt or tuxedo shirt A mirror Step 1: Drape tie around neck Lift up the collar of your shirt and drape the tie around your neck with one end hanging 1 and a half inches below the other end. Step 2: Button top button Button the top button of your shirt. Tip: If you want a nice thick knot, use a tie made of a thick material. Step 3: Cross ends Cross the long end in front of the short end. Step 4: Pass long end through loop With your thumb, bring the long end behind the short end and pass it up through the loop so it hangs down on top of the shorter end. Tip: Adjust the tightness of the tie now, as you won't be able to readjust later. Step 5: Double short end on itself Push the long end aside, and double the short end on itself so the narrow portion of the end is brought up to the knot and the loop lays sideways, from one collar point to the other.
