A84 from Callander through the Trossachs towards Tyndrum

Ride up through the Trossachs on the A84 from Callander towards Tyndrum. Bikes: 800ss, 1098s, Daytona 650. We were riding up to the Dun/Scottish Ducati Club annual Midgie Masher weekend. This was as good as the weather got. From Tyndrum it started raining and mostly stayed raining until we got home two days later! It was a bit wet.

(HD) West Highland Line GBRF Class 66 & ScotRail Class 156's at Tyndrum

Filming at what is known as Horse Shoe Curve, located just North of Tyndrum and just south of Bridge of Orchy, next to Beinn Dorain (1076m) & Brinn Odhar (901m), we firstly see a ScotRail Service from Fort William to Glasgow Queen Street slowly exiting Horse Shoe Curve. Then making an unannounced appearance, GBRF Class 66 on the Alcans heads south, making light work of the incline just after the viaduct. Finally, the last northbound ScotRail service of the day passes for Fort William.

Oban to Tyndrum from the air

After lunch, we swapped seats in the plane and headed due East from Oban, following the A85 road to Tyndrum at the foot of Glencoe. Watch for Ben Nevis to the North, suitably topped in snow. Another highlight is the dam at Ben Cruachan.

West Highland Way - Glasgow to Tyndrum

Route stats for this section taken from Bike mounted Garmin GPS 60CSx: Distance covered - 52.8 miles; Moving time - 8:36; stopped time - 1:45; Average moving speed - 6.1mph; max speed 36.3mph;total ascent 6600 feet. The trip got off to a bad start when I had to phone the boys from Milngavie to ask them to come back and give me my car keys which Fraser had in his pocket. Drymen forest car park where the batteries were recharged with a Greggs steak bake. Balmaha, walked up to the bottom of Conic hill to get pics (without midge repellant, big mistake) The 60 year old jogger who left the Drymen car park at the same time as our team arrived at least 10 minutes before them. Bienn Glass farm, Inverarnan: The support team (Me) had dinner in the Drovers inn. Went for the Lamb shank with creamy mashed potatoes with a glass of red wine included for £13.95. Decided to forgo the red wine and asked for lemonade instead for which I was charged £3.00 extra. Even though plastered with "Skin so soft" i would not get out the car at the farm as there seemed to be a midge convention there. The guys arrived at 11pm, they did the bit up to Tyndrum in the dark with their lights.
