To get your bearings, start in Yosemite Village, which is the hub of action in the valley. You can grab Yosemite permits at the Wilderness Center, pick up some a Yosemite map at the Visitor Center, or learn more about the valley's history in the Yosemite Museum. The Valley Shuttle map of Yosemite includes a guide to popular sights, bike trails and campgrounds in Yosemite. The Ansel Adams Gallery has photography walks, classes and workshops. Many are free, and offered year-round. For the best Yosemite pictures, head out at sunrise or sunset, when a beautiful warm glow shines across the valley. No matter where you're standing, the Yosemite view is sure to be breathtaking. Some of the best California hiking is found here in Yosemite. In fact, the park is home to 840 miles of hiking trails, including the famous John Muir Trail. When backpacking or hiking Yosemite trails through the backcountry, be sure to get a wilderness permit. When hiking in Yosemite, you'll need a permit to hike the summit of Half Dome, which is 4733 feet and about 16 miles round trip. Yosemite National Park Documentary - Part 1

Yosemite National Park (pronounced /joʊˈsɛmɨtiː/ yo-SEM-it-ee) is a national park located in the eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera counties in east central California, United States. The park covers an area of 761266 acres or 1189 square miles (3081 km²) and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain. Yosemite is visited by over 3.5 million people each year, many of whom only spend time in the seven square miles (18 km²) of Yosemite Valley. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness. Although not the first designated national park, Yosemite was a focal point in the development of the national park idea, largely owing to the work of people like John Muir and Galen Clark. The Ahwahneechee lived here for generations, followed by the arrival of Europeans in the mid-1800s. The rugged terrain challenged many early travelers, with just a few—only 650 from the mid-1850s to mid-1860s—making the journey to Yosemite Valley by horseback or stagecoach. By 1907, construction of the Yosemite Valley Railroad from Merced to El Portal eased the journey, thereby, increasing visitation. Today, 3.5 million people enter the parks gates to explore. We learn from the stories of those who walked Yosemites trails before us, allowing appreciation of their lasting footprints that led to conscious preservation. I am a destination visual artist who specializes in photography, timelapse cinematography, & filmmaking. I love to travel, so if you have a project in some far flung location, lets talk. Yosemite National Park, the High Sierra, and the Eastern Sierra are some of the most beautiful places on earth. Ever since I serendipitously won a trip to Yosemite when I was 18, the beautiful Range of Light has captured my heart and become my home. Nothing brings me more joy than to share this life changing beauty with others. Ever since I became fascinated with timelapse photography almost 2 years ago, after seeing the work of Tom Lowe, I've wanted to do a piece on Yosemite and the Sierra.
