I heard today (April 5) was the day Kurt passed away 17 years ago. Can't believe it's been that long. So grateful for his contribution and inspiration. Not sure I'd be doing this if it weren't for him. He gave us all permission to create no matter what our skill set and reminded me that dreams are possible. Thanks for that. This made me recall a short piece of film I shot when I heard they were making a film celebrating his life. I made it to explore the character and explore creative possibilities. If you have seen the program "Yo Soy" before, you know that the majority of contestants who come on and impersonate their favorite singers are horrible. They sing out of tune, dance like they have squirrels in their pants, and generally fail to impress the three chuckling judges. But then came Ramiro Saavedra, a 27-year-old from Arequipa. He has been playing the guitar since he was ten and now leads a band in his hometown called Olaf. But on the "Yo Soy" stage, he channeled Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of the grunge band Nirvana who died of a drug overdose almost 20 years ago. Or did he?
