Three Kinds of Cartilage Cartilage, unlike other types of connective tissue, has no blood vessels. It is tough but pliant because the ground substance between the cells contains combinations of proteins and sugars. Cartilage is described as hyaline, fibrous or elastic, depending on the density and type of fibers present in its composition. Hyaline, the most abundant type of cartilage, is clear and glassy, with few cells and fibers in the ground substance. Hyaline covers the ends of bones at the joints, and also forms the rings which keep the trachea open. Fibrocartilage is made up of tightly packed bundles of collagen fibers, making it resilient and able to withstand compression. Fibrocartilage lies, for example, between vertebrae. Elastic cartilage contains, in addition to collagen, fibers of the protein elastin. This makes it firm yet supple, giving support, for example, to the external ear and epiglottis.

Cartilage was a Finnish Death Metal band, from Vaasa, formed in 1991. On their founding year released "Encapsulated Rehearsal" and "In Godly Flesh" demos, of which the first one was only self-financed. 1992 they got signed to the Spanish Drowned records and appeared on a split-album with Swedish Altar. Their side of the album was called "The Fragile Concept of Affection". Unfortunately band splitted-up soon after split-release. Three of the former members of Cartilage, formed a Black Metal band Enochian Crescent and before that carried out gothic/doom Death metal project Wings, releasing only one album and ,and a progressive thrash metal band Misantropia. Former vocalist ,Mikki Salo, owns Finnish Woodcut records. Mind-blowing Grindcore drummer ,Kai Hahto, continued he's succesful carrier with another local Death metal band Vomiturition. Later he also participated in great bands like Rotten Sound and Wintersun. Prior to surgery, the joint is prepared by filling it with fluid. Next, the surgeon inserts an arthroscope in order to visualize the torn meniscal cartilage, and remove the tissue with a cutting tool. Later, a Lifenet tissue graft will be sewn into place.
