73/100 Verdict: Recommended if you like singer/songwriter albums full of sadness and heartbreak Overview: A Sleep and A Forgetting is a horrifyingly simple record when compared to previous Islands releases. From the first sonic moments the listener realizes that this is a record of stone cold heartbreak. Soul and doo-wop influences are crafted into a very minimal songwriting style; a stark difference from the chaotic electronic beats and electric guitars of the past.
