Story of the Anabaptists

Inspired by the lifestyle of the early church the Anabaptists, the radicals of the Reformation, rejected the compromised values of Christendom and the state church to begin communities of peace and reconciliation. Anabaptism today inspires ways of responding to a secular world in conflict. For more go to www.anabaptist.asn.au

Reformation Overview The Anabaptists 5a

Here at last are the ones I can identify the most with. They were called the Radicals and for their time they were. By being baptised as adults they were denying the efficacy of their childhood baptism and in so doing incurred the wrath of not only the Roman Catholic Church but those Protestants who had not yet seen the full light of the Scriptures. They had not seen that baptism actually plays no part in salvation but is instead by Faith Alone without any good or indeed ritual works. (Eph 2:8-10) These early Baptists frequently paid the ultimate price for their simple faith. To the shame of the early Reformers it was the Protestants who often did the persecuting I believe that believers Baptism is the true biblical form of baptism. I was baptised by full immersion when I was 28. I am not alone in finding it ironic that many Baptists are Calvinists as they would have been put to death under the reign of Calvin.

The Anabaptist Vision

www.RadicalReformation.com ...The Anabaptist Vision was a message preached by Harold S. Bender at Columbia University in 1943. It is a radical Christian manifesto calling Christians back to the kingdom message of Jesus Christ. As Bender explains, "The Anabaptists were concerned most of all about a true Christian life, that is, a life patterned after the teaching and example of Christ." This is Bender's original message, read by Dean Taylor, author of the recent book, A Change of Allegiance. As Bender explains, "The Anabaptists retained the original vision of Luther and Zwingli, enlarged it, gave it body and form, and set out to achieve it in actual experience. They proceeded to organize a church composed solely of earnest Christians, and actually found the people for it. They did not believe in any case that the size of the response should determine whether or not the truth of God should be applied, and they refused to compromise. They preferred to make a radical break with 1500 years of history and culture if necessary rather than to break with the New Testament."

O God, Do Thou Sustain Me - Anabaptist Martyr Hymn

An anabaptist hymn of prayer for strength and protection, written by Leonhart Sommer, who died in prison, December 1573, because of his belief. Song taken from the Christian Hymnary. ******* Please click to play all the featured Christian hymns: www.youtube.com O God, do Thou sustain me, In grief and sore duress Pride counter which disdains Thee And comfort my distress. O Lord let me find mercy In bonds and prison bed Men would seek to devour me With guile and controversy Save me from danger dread! Thou wilt never forsake me This firmly I believe Thy blood Thou hast shed freely And with it washed me. Therein my trust is resting In Christ, God's only Son On him I am now building In tribulation trusting God will me not disown! To die and to be living Until my end I see To Thee my trust I'm giving Thou wilt my helper be Soul, body, child companion Herewith commit I Thee Come soon, Lord, come and take me From ruthless men do save me Be honour ever to Thee. Amen.
