Acrylics - Nightwatch

Here's the first new track to surface from Acrylics' forthcoming LP Lives and Treasure, due early next year on fledgling label Hot Sand Records. Molly Shea's pristine vocals smolder on lead single "Nightwatch," a dusky, Fleetwood Mac-indebted smooth jam with a similar late '70s FM soft-rock sheen as last year's great "Molly's Vertigo."

"Acrylics... Loosely based on "a Dragon Awakens"

I'm going to be uploading a row of traditional style art vids in the next couple of weeks. Oil, colored pencil, airbrush, etc. I begin with the hardest most unforgiving medium (at least for me). Acrylics. It dries so fast... But yet I still very much enjoy the challenge, as well as the gritty artistic outcome. I did this painting based loosely on the "Dragon Awakens" digital painting, since it was the most recent vid where a couple of people made the comment that a person could not freehand such art without the computer. It inspired me to attempt a similarly colored creature concept with the acrylics. It's funny--- 99% of viewers can say great things about the art, but I am guilty of focusing on that 1% that has something negative to say. But I think that the the one thing I am most guilty of is the fact that part of me ENJOYS IT. Sure, some people can get obnoxious about it at times, but it isn't as much about them, their opinion, or any lack of self confidence on my end. I think I enjoy the human philosophy side of it the most... I am fascinated by the patterns of various perceptions some people have. Equally fascinating is how they act it out on other folks. It says a lot about us as a race... But I truly think I learn a lot from it. Anyway-- here is my latest. I am feeling a bit burned out on dragons at this point... I think the next painting-- which will be oils on masonite-- shall be a T-rex or something. And also, I have been messing around with photorealism with ...

Speed Painting With Acrylics...

I felt motivated to do this one from the couple of comments on the "Speed Painting Photo Realism" video I uploaded not too long ago... The majority of comments I get are extremely positive and wonderful, but as an artist I still get challenged if even just one person publicly suspects me of cheating the process. In this case, since I have been using photoshop-- some think that there's apossibility that I am "tracing" a layer, and editing that part OUT of the vids. I can see how that might seem possible to some (if you are not looking closely at how the detail is coming together). Apparently, some people don't believe it is possible to actually freehand draw and get accurate proportions without erasing a lot, or tracing. So here is a vid of me painting freehand from scratch with acrylics (which dry extremely fast making it difficult to get smooth blending) without sketching it first. This excercise is about 10 times harder to do than digital painting, but I wanted to demonstrate the freehand drawing/painting capabilities that are behind all of my work... Actual time to do this was about 3 hours.
