| Laws that put more people in prison might seem like a good thing if you're for law and order. But what if you found those laws had been passed so private prisons would have more people to incarcerate and therefor make more money? That's one of the allegations laid out by a coalition of groups in Arizona who are calling attention to what the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is doing to undermine democracy in America. The groups say ALEC takes millions of dollars from corporations and uses it to get state legislatures to do their bidding, passing laws that do everything from put more people in prison to disenfranchising voters.
