In this video interview, Dan Pink, author of "Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us," advises business managers and individuals how to build trust at work when they aren't co-located. Managers and employees must perform a "mindshift" of management practices. Work is about output, results and accomplishments. Managers and individuals must change their feelings of control. Managers should empower employees with autonomy, and workers should take responsibility to provide value even if a boss is not present. In order to achieve a trusted working relationship, collaboration and frequent communication is crucial. For example, establishing regular and impromptu video conferencing sessions, as well as in-person visits when appropriate.
