Подводная лодка Шильдера / The first Russian combat iron submarine

Аппарат Карла Андреевича Шильдера. Этта штука, вооруженная шестью "фугасовыми ракетами" и пороховой миной с электроподрывом (торпеды появятся лишь спустя десятилетия), была построена и испытана в конце тридцатых годов девятнадцатого века, то есть во времена Пушкина и Лермонтова... Дизелей и электродвигателей ещё не существовало, а потому подводная лодка всплывала, погружалась и перемещалась под водой, влекомая силой гребцов - четырёх дюжих матросов. Собственно, "силовая установка" и была, вероятно, самым слабым местом субмарины Шильдера: скорость аппарата не превышала одного километра в час. В остальном же - всё, "как у больших": системы принудительной венитилляции, водяной балласт, металлический корпус, гермолюки, перископ, грозное оружие, мужественный экипаж. Подлодка прошла испытание на Неве и на Кронштадтском рейде и в целом показала удовлетворительные результаты. Била в цель ракетами (том числе и из-под воды), а также заминировала и подорвала списаный парусник-мишень. Изобретатель во многом опередил своё время. Его кораблик так и не был принят на военную службу. Но этот подводный ракетоносец, несомненно, оставил свой, почётный и заметный, след в истории русского флота. It was propelled by oars. The precise nature of the submarine type is a matter of some controversy; some claim that it was merely a bell towed by a boat. Two improved types were tested in the Thames between 1620 and 1624... The first military submarine was Turtle in 1776, a hand-powered egg-shaped device designed by the American David Bushnell, to accommodate a single man. It was the first verified submarine capable of independent underwater operation and movement, and the first to use screws for propulsion. During the American Revolutionary War, Turtle (operated by Sgt.
