World's first manned flight with an electric multicopter

On October 21st, 2011, Thomas Senkel of e-volo made the first manned flight with an electric multicopter, the so called volocopter VC1, at an airstrip in the southwest of Germany. The flight lasted 90 seconds, after which the constructor and test pilot stated: "The flight characteristics are good natured. Without any steering input it would just hover there on the spot". PAL-V Flying Car - Maiden Flight

This week the Dutch company PAL-V announced the first flights of its prototype "flying car". This unique vehicle is called the PAL-V One, or the 'Personal Air and Land Vehicle', and It marks the start of a new era. On the ground the vehicle drives like a sports car. Within minutes its rotor is unfolded and its tail is extended: then it is ready to take off thanks to the advanced gyrocopter technology. With these successful test results it is proven that it is not only possible to build a flying car but also that it can be done within existing international rules for both flying and driving. Having passed this important milestone the company is now inviting investors to join them in creating the future. The next step will be the design of the first commercial production model of the PAL-V, and first deliveries are expected in 2014. This is a compilation of clips of the Planes of Fame Museum's Corsair (Chino, California) and includes some clips of the Palm Springs Air Museum's own Corsair. Man, this thing just scoots, BIG TIME! Wow, just awesome! Listen to the 2000 horsepower generated by the 2800 cubic inches of the supercharged, 18 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800! You'll see during the flybys why the Japanese called this fighter the "Whistling Death." This aircraft just leaps off the runway in just a few seconds, and remember, the manifold pressure used today for takeoff with 100-octane low-lead fuel is not anywhere near what could be used with the wartime, 130-octane+ fuel. Very impressive!

'Russian Stealth' 1st public flight: Sukhoi PAK FA T-50 at MAKS airshow

The Sukhoi-made plane took to the skies for a 8-minute show. The jet's said to be equipped with some of the most advance avionics on the planet. It will be able to land on short runways and fly in any weather. It can carry up to eight medium range or two long-range missiles in its two internal bays. The jet's first prototype performed its maiden flight last January, and carried out 36 test flights. The fifth generation fighter's expected to enter service in Russia in 2015. The price tag is estimated at US $100 million.
