In 1910 young Adolf Hitler leaves his hometown in Austria and travels to Vienna to apply for admission at the Academy of Fine Arts. He shares a rented room with two Jewish men, Bible salesman Schlomo Herzl and his friend Lobkowitz, a Kosher cook. Schlomo, a good-natured man, takes the troubled young man under his wing. One day, Schlomo starts writing his own book, but its title `Mein Leben' (My Life) doesn't convince Lobkowitz. They come up with `Mein Kampf', which Hitler is especially enthusiastic about. Adolf is not accepted at the academy and wants to kill himself. It is Schlomo who saves him at the last moment. Ironically, it is also Schlomo who suggests that Hitler should try his luck in politics, where his leadership qualities would be of great use... Reality and fiction are blurred, offering a timeless story about good serving evil. - Production Notes Stanley Kubrick 's "Dr. Strangelove" or the Coen Brothers recent "A Serious Man" come to mind - Access Atlanta |
