| Five Cambodian high school students and one teacher from Kampong Chhnang province have been selected to participate in the State Department Youth Leadership Program this year. The 25-day program is designed to promote leadership and community engagement for future leaders of Asean. Hosted by Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, the group explores the principles of leadership, attends workshops and designs projects for their home countries on their return. This year, 24 students and teachers from five Asean countries, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, participated. In a recent interview with VOA Khmer, the teacher, Nget Sokheng, said the program is useful. "If it continues, the program will train many leaders in Cambodia," Nget Sokheng said. The Cambodian group will develop a project in Kampong Chhnang province to help protect the environment. (Poch Reasey interviews students and teacher.) |
