Stanley Kubrick - The Works

A visionary, a master of his craft, an artist. Stanley Kubrick is my all time favorite director. For years I've rewatched his films MANY times and no films from any other director have affected me the same way Kubrick's have. Each and every film of his is an experience. Whether it be the spine tingling chills of 'The Shining' or the tear inducing laughs of 'Dr. Strangelove,' Kubrick's films always stick with the viewer. With this edition of 'The Works' I really wanted to channel what I feel makes Kubrick's films so special. So here you are, an extra long tribute that chronicles a lifetime of works from one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived. Stanley, no one will ever make films as timeless as your own. (I apologize for the absence of 'Fear and Desire' I was unable to obtain a copy of it. But even Kubrick himself stated that he never looked on that film fondly. He saw it as merely a learning exercise). As for a for my next director tribute, I will not be giving out a hint this time. However, you can expect a sneak peek very soon! Everyone loves surprises right? Martin Scorsese on Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and DW Griffith

I have been working on an idea, an editing project idea if you will, of a 15-minute video essay documenting all of DW Griffith's important contributions to the craft of filmmaking that survive to this day and have formed the basic grammar and lexicon of filmmaking. IF I ever get around to doing it, I'll post it on my channel. Until then, watch one of the greatest film historians and most vocal film lovers of all time, Scorsese, share his thoughts on two of the most instrumental filmmakers of the twentieth century.

Frame By Frame: Stanley Kubrick

UNL Film Studies professor Wheeler Winston Dixon explores the work of American director Stanley Kubrick. Stanley Kubrick (July 26, 1928 -- March 7, 1999) was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer, who lived in England during most of the last four decades of his career. Kubrick was noted for the scrupulous care with which he chose his subjects, a slow method of working, the variety of genres he worked in, technical perfectionism, reluctance to talk about his films, and reclusiveness. He maintained almost complete artistic control, but with the rare advantage of big-studio financial support for all his endeavors. Several of his films were considered cinematically groundbreaking, including 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) noted among the most scientifically realistic and visually innovative science-fiction films ever made; Barry Lyndon (1975), with its use of specially-designed super fast lenses to capture low-light scenes; The Shining (1980), the first film to use the new Steadicam extensively to allow stabilized and fluid tracking of motion. Kubrick was cinematographer for four of his thirteen films, and produced, directed, and wrote all or part of the screenplays for nearly all his films. All of Kubrick's films from the mid-1950s onward, except The Shining, were nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes, or BAFTAs. Although he was nominated for an Academy Award as a screenwriter and director on several occasions, his only personal win was for the ...

Red Ice Radio - Jay Weidner - Hr 1 - Kubrick's Odyssey: How Stanley Faked the Moon Landings

Jay Weidner is an author, filmmaker and hermetic scholar, considered to be a "modern-day Indiana Jones" for his ongoing worldwide quests to find clues to mankind's spiritual destiny. He returns to Red Ice to talk about his film, Kubrick's Odyssey. Jay presents compelling evidence of how Stanley Kubrick directed the Apollo moon landings. He reveals that the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey was not only a retelling of Arthur C. Clarke and Kubrick's novel, but also a research and development project that assisted Kubrick in the creation of the Apollo moon footage. Weidner also tells how Kubrick's film, The Shining is the story of Kubrick's personal travails as he secretly worked on the Apollo footage for NASA. www.redicecreations.com
