During active labor (which for me was 8cm+) I used an ultrasound picture of my daughter as a focus point to cope w/ the pain as a reminder of why I was doing this. I did a lot of moaning & groaning as it helped maintain a loose jaw which kept me from tensing up & preventing baby to come down. I focused on keeping my body as loose, relaxed & limp as possible for this reason. Instead of squeezing someone elses hands they squeezed mine so I stayed relaxed. At one point the MW says "Ohhh that was bad" she accidentally spilled cold water on me while trying to give me a drink. At one point I tell Joel to not breathe on me. I labored for quite some time which meant we weren't exactly brushing our teeth during this process & his breath started stinking. The smell made me very sick to my stomach so I asked him to brush & get gum. Joel supported my body the majority of the time I was in the pool. I was able to just "be" a limp noodle. We kept saying "relax" through contraction as a gentle reminder to not tense. (are you seeing a pattern here yet? lol It took a LOT of focus for me to NOT tense & let the contractions take over my body & do as they need. Surrendering was hard work!) Come pushing time we were trying to find a way I see as I wanted to watch for motivation to keep going while in the pool. yourbirthcoach.com Video of my second home birth. It was about 6 hours of labor from early beginnings to birth. This video starts when things start to feel "pushy." Up until this point I was silent during my contractions. You can watch my labor here http The sounds women make in labor may make it seem as if it is painful, but I can assure you pain was not part of this birth experience. The sounds of pushing help when using all your effort, just like with intense exercise (tennis players hitting the ball). With this birth it really just felt like I needed to have a BM. I didn't want any noise around me or anyone talking. My birth team was great because they really just left me to do my work without disturbance. I did appreciate my midwife saying to go slow when I feel the burn. She said it at the exact right time and that definitely helped make getting the head out so easy and gentle. It is one of the great things about midwifery care, they observe you so carefully that they know just where you are and what you need. Homebirth Video 7/3/11 (1st diaper to the very end of L&D)

I had just given birth using a birthing chair. Shortly after she was born I waddled my way over to the bed with the both of us still attached. While waiting on the placenta to expel we cuddled. Once the cord was done pulsating (it took FOREVER) we finally clamped & cut the cord. The video you are seeing now is from this point forward. After she was separated from us for the first time we put a diaper on her as she had already peed the bed & me..lol (her first diaper was a Lil Joey) Daddy & Jacelyn cuddle Baby Peyson who at the time was unnamed for days following her birth. Finally I get baby back & got even more cuddle time w/ my very alert baby. She nursed all through-out our cuddle times. She was by far a nursing champ. Meanwhile my MW's were prepping for our herbal bath. Then our MW gives us a placenta exam lesson. This was soooooooooooooooooooo cool! Peyson had a false knot close to the base of her cord & an EXTREMELY THICK sac. Following was more nursing session while they were prepping our herbal bath for the next steps. Daddy cuddled Peyson again while I got into the bath. Fed Peyson again while in our herbal bath & then did a little boding time while soaking. Following our herbal bath she peed YET AGAIN, lol while Daddy was getting dressed. Then Peyson had her first out of the womb hiccups :) while Daddy was holding her. Time for baby's newborn exam! She had several indicators that she was "early" as all my children did w/ coming at 37 weeks. She weighed 7 lbs 14 ...
