Inside of Hard Drive

Simple operations performed by a hard drive with no cover, so that you can see what it looks like inside. This experiment was performed on an old hard drive, do not try this with newer expensive hard drives, it is a bit risky. Details & Specifications ■ Model of drive: Samsung WU32543A 2.5GB ■ Test performed in Windows XP ■ Disk died about three months after being opened Joshua Marius www.letheonline.net

Hard Drive Data Recovery - Western Digital Head Swap

www.acsdata.com ~~~WARNING~~~ ****THIS IS NOT AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO**** There are key steps and some proprietary information that has been edited out. This is also only a 10 minute video, where just the head swap alone can take well over an hour depending on the drive. We also don't show our method for aligning the heads on this particular model. This video was originally produced because many of our customers were simply curious, or ill informed about what is done to physically repair a hard drive for recovery. This video is not intended to make you think swapping heads is easy. This video is not intended to make you think you can do it yourself. In 99% of this cases, if you attempt this on your own, even within a clean room environment, you will probably lose your data for good. Also, just because your drive is clicking, does not necessarily mean the heads are bad. Proper diagnosis is key with doing data recovery correctly. Most lower level companies will just try to swap the heads, when it may be a PCB or firmware issue. When the head swap doesn't work, they will say your data is unrecoverable. We get drives like that in every week, where a customer has been told the heads are bad, when they weren't. So just because your drive is clicking, there maybe something more to it, but you won't have the proper equipment needed to verify this or not and neither will a lower end data recovery firm. The simple message here is, if your data is critical, make absolutely sure you ...

Hard drive teardown

Bill opens up a computer hard drive to show how it is engineered. He describes how the "head" reads the magnetic information on the disk; reveals how a voice coil motor and a slider controls the position of that head. He also discusses how smooth a disk must be, and briefly mentions a mathematical technique that allows engineers to pack more information on a drive.

LED Hard Drive Clock Demo

This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5" hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns. I got the idea from this page: alan-parekh.com And here is my page with more details: www.ian.org .

Hack A Hard-Drive To a Hidden Drive,LED,Phone Stand & Charger

About this project: A Hidden Flash-Memory That Only you know how to turn it on and use it secretly. This is a DIY hack project that allows you to recycle your broken hard-drives back to live and turn them to something useful. here are the costs and list of devices for those who will love to make their own: 1.the HDD, $8 from 2nd hand shop. 2.The light sensor light, $5 from electricity store,(it was new being honest). 3.the 5V DC relay, $5 from electronic shop (new) 4.the resistors $4 from electronic shop (new), you can use old ones too from some broken circuit. 5.the clip lights amount 2, each around $6, it was used only by me. 6.USB cable $3 from 2nd shop. 7.USB charging cable for phone, $4 from computer store (new). 8.LEDs $12 from DIY store, New. 9.Pen hold wood chunk, and super Glue around $6, DIY store New. 10. Metal little thing for the smartphone stand and nuts and bolts, total around $7 from DIY store. 11. Switch $4 new, you can use an old one too. 12. the variable resistor and diode, from an old PC power supply, i had at home. 13.Transistor got it from an old circuit, anyone would work, just while it comes about NPN and PNP, just little different connections. 14.Flash memory $ 6, i had at home. 15.little PCB, $4 from DIY store, new. 16. little flash light $2 from DIY store. total: $ 74 ~ $80 with this amount ($80) you can build your own, and use it for ever and enjoy it. Making a Hard Drive Speaker

I thought hard disk speakers looked cool so I've made one. the hdd which I've used is an old Seagate (631mb capacity - yeah.. Really old.) Don't do this with new/good hdd's because once you open that drive's case, you can't expect to use it as a storage drive anymore. "hard disk speakers" are nothing more than eye candy. they sound pretty crap and you need an amplifier to work it. they're quite easy to make though.. - if you have a dead hdd lying around, might as well play around with it =D
