Disaster as cruise ship runs aground in Italy - BBC Breakfast coverage - January 14, 2012

Three people are confirmed dead after a cruise ship carrying more than 4000 people ran aground off Italy. The Costa Concordia hit a sandbar on Friday evening near the island of Giglio and listed about 20 degrees, after which people tried to reach land in lifeboats or by swimming. Rescue teams have been going from cabin to cabin, searching for survivors. Italians, Germans, French and British were among the 3200 passengers. There were also 1000 crew on board. Helicopters evacuated the last 50 people on the deck who were in a "worsening" situation. Three people were confirmed dead, Italian coast guard officials said on Saturday morning - fewer than the six or eight deaths reported by Italian media earlier. The Costa Concordia had sailed earlier on Friday from Civitavecchia port near Rome for a Mediterranean cruise, due to dock in Marseille after calling at ports in Sicily, Sardinia and Spain. A cruise ship with over 4-thousand people on board has grounded off Italy's north-west coast. At least 3 bodies have been recovered, with more than a dozen others still missing. Most of those on board the Costa Concordia were evacuated from the vessel after it hit a reef near the Island of Giglio, late on Friday. Secrets of the Italian Cruise Ship Disaster

Last week tragedy struck off of the coast of Italy when the Costa Concordia cruise ship capsized off the coast of Tuscany. We have all been hearing some parts of the story emerging from that scene, but what important secrets has the main stream media been leaving out? What lessons can we learn from this event? We know the crew of the cruise ship acted selfishly and out of self-preservation, leaving the passengers to drown. Many of the passengers who did survive ignored the recommendation from the cruise line crew that, "there is nothing to worry about". This teaches us that those who blindly put their trust in an all dominating authority or nanny state only put themselves in the position to be the victims of unending corruption.

Dozens missing from stricken Italian cruise ship

www.euronews.net Dozens of people are still unaccounted for after a Mediterranean cruise ship ran aground off the west coast of Italy. Divers are searching the submerged decks of the Costa Concordia and coastguards are scouring the waters for survivors. Reports say the three people confirmed dead are two French tourists and a Peruvian crew member. The authorities are stressing that the number of missing has continued to come down as people's whereabouts becomes known. Survivors described the scene as the ship hit the rocks.
