Syria locked into a deadly spiral of protest — Russia Today

James Denselow, writer on Middle East politics and security issues, says although the West has no appetite to intervene in Syria's affairs right now, it might change its mind. "From what we are hearing from Washington and from the Europeans, there's no appetite for expanding the current intervention that we are seeing in Libya. Even in Libya Americans were very quick to hand over to NATO, therefore to wash their hands of total responsibility for what will happen next there" says Denselow, "the West could be forced to intervene simply because of the level of bloodshed. But we are a long way from that now."

Islam and Life-Western Media & Arabs uprising-02-24-2011-(Part1)

www.presstv.com The topic of debate in this edition of Press TV's Islam and Life is the causes of the Arab world's uprisings and why the West is afraid of them. The guest is the Middle East analyst, James Denselow. Denselow thinks the cause of the uprisings is the untenable social and economic situation that was not sustainable. He mentions the incredible rise in food prices in the last year and country-specific elements like the self-immolation of a young man in the case of Tunisia as the main reason for the uprisings. He also mentions the effect of new technologies and Wikileaks on the popular uprisings. Denselow adds that these uprisings are not full-blown revolutions since much of the old guard is still in power in these countries. He says the West's main fear is of instability. Enjoy the show.

'WikiLeaked body count files writing true history of Iraq'

Iraq's prime minister says the latest WikiLeaks revelations are a move to derail his chances of forming a government - by linking him to death squads. The latest WikiLeaks files allege abuse by Iraqi security forces - some of which happened after Nouri al-Maliki became prime minister in 2006. The Premier's office denies he had death squads under his command, and suspect the timing of the military leak is designed to weaken his fragile control. Middle East expert James Denselow, from King's College in London, says the Iraqi Premier's claims are groundless.
