Malilangwe's impressive tuskers

This is a team of Malilangwe's best. As if in slow motion they parade their ivory across the African savanna. The biggest bull has impressive ivory, very uniform and of a great shape which still have many years of growing in them. In time he will become one of Africa's great elephant icons.

Private dining with the exquisite view of Malilangwe Dam

Singita Pamushana Lodge, Zimbabwe. Tonight we have a family of four eating on the front deck overlooking the dam in the valley below... without any moon or clouds in the sky, tonight they will have the most unbelievable starry heaven to look up to!

African Storm

In late afternoon the storm approached Malilangwe from the south. A lone Fish Eagle braved the winds heading west as the storm headed east and then sweeps northwards towards me. The low lying areas receive the downpour. With the first drops I race out of there and down to Malilangwe dam where the storm's still coming. Half an hour later the storm has passed leaving me with the most stunning sunset.

Huge Catfish ashore

Malilangwe dam is alive with activity in these dry times. This catfish was being fed on by Fish Eagles and Marabou Storks when it was washed up on the shoreline.

Puzzles' last day

The wild dogs found themselves at the top end of Malilangwe dam where again the dogs were unsure of this large expanse of water. As usual the pups were curious but terrified. Puzzles in her over-loaded pregnant state didn't bother to venture down, using the bare minimum of energy only when she needed to. This is probably her last day of carrying that load of pups.

Braving bush fires

It's that time of year where most of southern Africa is burning. Some of this is controlled burning and others are just left to burn for weeks. Malilangwe have controlled burns to control the growth of woody vegetation. This means they're really hot violent burns and I nearly got caught in the violence.

Wild Dogs Return

Wild Dogs have returned to Malilangwe after the resident packs were wiped out by Rabies last year. This is a small pack of 3, a male and 2 females. Ideal for starting a new pack. The dogs are really well fed but when they spot impala ahead, suddenly their interest is peaked.
